A small museum, the Inland Waterway Historical Society is an excellent stop on a day trip in Northern Michigan.
I visited earlier this summer. The staff was pleasant and quite helpful in planning my journey on the route with a vintage launch. The exhibits were excellent and very interesting. I am sure the museum will continue to get better and better! This is well worth a stop, if you are visiting the area.
Photos and artifacts from the early period of American history before railroads and automobiles. The Inland Waterway provided the means to ship raw materials, supplies, settlers and tourists to the northern region of Michigan. The Inland Water Route Historical Society maintains the museum to preserve and educate about the rich history of the Inland Waterway. See how transportation evolved from canoes to steamer boats to meet the needs of the region in this northern wilderness.
